Application and selection

The maximum number of course participants is limited to 80, to facilitate interactions.  This course will target early career scientists (ECRs) from different areas of basic biological sciences and medicine, primarily experienced PhD students and post-doctoral level scientists within 5 years after completion of their doctorate.  

Selection will be on the basis of CVs and submitted abstracts, but representation of different topics at the event, and career stage, geographical distribution and gender balance may also be taken into consideration.  Successful applicants will be required to bring a poster and give a short oral presentation.

 

How to apply

By the deadline April 15th 2024:

  1. Complete a registration order through the registration/abstract submission portal on this event website. When you complete an order, you will receive an 'order received e-mail' with full instructions on how to proceed with your application and a copy of the order in PDF.

  2. During this process, upload a single file (accepted format is pdf) containing all supporting documents for your application:

    1. a letter of recommendation from your Supervisor, confirming your status as PhD student or Young Investigator 
    2. a summary of your reasons for applying to the event, your research interests and expected source of funding (max 300 words)
    3. a concise CV (max 2 pages)
    4. for applicants for FEBS Youth Travel Fund awards, your Constituent Society membership proof, age, ID and proof of status.
  3. Submit your abstract via the 'My abstract' tab in the registration/abstract portal [abstract submission is mandatory for consideration of your application]. See the Abstract section of the website for more details.

Note: A restricted number of travel grants will be available to applicants who cannot obtain funding from other routes. If you are a member of a society belonging to the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), please click on the link to the travel grant page. If your laboratory is able to fund your participation in this course, please do use this funding. By doing so, you will allow us to help those who have no financial support available to them.

Notification

You will be notified of the outcome of your application by May 15th 2024 at the latest. Accepted applicants must then pay the relevant registration fee as set out in the table below, by May 30th 2024. More details on registration fee payment will be included in your outcome notification, and key points are also given in the terms and conditions.

 In any event, neither the Course Organizers nor SFRR-Europe, IUBMB or FEBS accept liability for damages or costs in the event of bodily injury, death, property damage, disruption to travel plans and costs incurred as a result of events outside of the reasonable control of the Congress Organizers, SFRR-Europe, IUBMB or FEBS, including (but not limited to) natural disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire or closure of airports.

Registration fees

The registration fee covers the stay at Spetses Hotel on a shared basis from September 30th  (Arrival) to October 6th (Departure). If you need to stay (an) additional day(s), you will have to pay for it separately and arrange for this by contacting the hotel to book any required extra night(s). All meals and refreshments during the meeting are included in the registration fee. Travel is not included.

Terms and Conditions

By registering for the event, participants (also referred to as 'you') are entering an agreement with the Course Organizers and you are indicating acceptance to the terms and conditions set out below. 

Registration Fee

The registration Fee for participants covers:

  • Access to all scientific programme sessions
  • Meals and refreshments
  • Accommodation at Spetses Hotel (in a shared/triple room) 
  • Name badge, printed materials and certificate of attendance
  • Participation in a cultural / social event

Travel costs are not covered by the registration fee.

Methods of Payment

Payments must be made by bank transfer; details will be included in your outcome notification email. 

Bank charges are the responsibility of the participant and should be paid at source. Your Name, Surname / Redox Biochemistry and Order ID must be indicated on the transaction receipt of the bank transfer.

Proof of payment must be received before the stated deadline

A confirmation notification will be sent to you when organizers receive the fund and confirm your registration in the system. If you do not receive confirmation within 7 business days after sending your proof of payment / receipt of transaction, please contact info@redoxbiochemistry2024.febsevents.org 

Registration cancellation & refund policy

All registration cancellation requests should be sent to info@redoxbiochemistry2024.febsevents.org in writing. For cancellation requests received on or before 1st September 2024, 50% of the payment, less bank charges, will be refunded; for cancellation requests received on and after this date, the full amount will be charged and no refunds will be made. 

Travel insurance

You should seek and follow the advice of your government before registering and booking travel for the event and before travelling to the event. You are solely responsible for making your own appropriate travel and other insurance arrangements before booking travel for the Congress.

Modification and cancellation of the event

The Course Organizers reserve the right to modify the event programme, which is published as an indication only.

In the event of cancellation of the event, at any time, as a result of events outside of the reasonable control of the Course Organizers, including (but not limited to) natural disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire or closure of airports etc. the registration fee shall be refunded by the Course Organizers but neither the Course Organizers nor SFRR-Europe, IUBMB and FEBS shall be held liable for any other costs or losses incurred such as transportation costs, financial losses, etc. 

Disclaimer

The Course Organizers take all reasonable care in making arrangements. They act only as agents e.g. securing hotels, transport and travel services, and shall in no event be liable for acts or omissions in the event of injury, damage, loss, accident delay or irregularity of any kind whatsoever during arrangements organized through contractors. Hotel and transportation services are subject to the terms and conditions under which they are offered to the general public.

In the absence of any negligence or other breach of duty by the Course Organizers, SFRR-Europe, IUBMB or FEBS, these parties shall not be responsible for any bodily injury, death or property damages (including theft) sustained by participants during the event.

In any event, neither the Course Organizers nor SFRR-Europe, IUBMB or FEBS accept liability for damages or costs in the event of bodily injury, death, property damage, disruption to travel plans and costs incurred as a result of events outside of the reasonable control of the Congress Organizers, SFRR-Europe, IUBMB or FEBS, including (but not limited to) natural disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire or closure of airports.

Governing law

Any legal dispute resulting from the accepted terms and conditions will be subject to the law of the United Kingdom.
